Meet the Board
Mariah Veley, MSEd. LPC
President
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from The University of Pennsylvania, earning a Master's degree in School and Mental Health Counseling, Mariah began her experience working with children and families. While carrying a caseload and eventually being promoted to supervisor of the family therapy program, Mariah underwent three years of Eco-Systemic Structural Family therapy training. Later she went on to supervise a team of psychologists and psychotherapists in an integrated behavioral health center for children and families. In 2020, Mariah began counseling essential employees of nationally recognized corporations in response to pandemic stress, racial and political tensions, and disruptive events that occur in the workplace. Throughout her experience, she identified gaps in treatment availability and barriers to receiving compassionate and quality mental health services. Committed to making treatment accessible to all, she created Veley Foundation.
Elizabeth Nesland, NP.
Vice President
Elizabeth Nesland, NP has been committed to improving the health, development and well-being of
children and their families since 1998. After working as a Registered Nurse, she completed a
master’s degree in nursing at the California State University, Long Beach. This education allowed
her to become board certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in 2005. While working in hospital
clinics and practices providing primary patient care for ages birth to 21 years, she encountered
serious disparity in the care low-income parents were able to access as compared to their children.
Following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Elizabeth enrolled in the Family Practice
Nurse Practitioner post-graduate certification at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
Becoming licensed and certified at this level expanded her ability to provide care for patients across
the lifespan.
Once in this setting, it quickly became apparent that Psychiatric care for patients of any age
and income was the greatest challenge for her patients. Elizabeth Nesland also encountered strong
resistance to treating even mild depression, anxiety or ADHD in the primary care setting. Once
again she turned to education, and enrolled in the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. She
completed the Psychiatric/Mental Health NP post-graduate certification program. She is currently
applying her comprehensive training to patients across the lifespan, focused on the medication and
lifestyle management of mental health.
